KARACHI: The funeral prayer of Shaheed reporter of Geo News, Wali Khan Babar, has been offered here late Thursday night, Geo News reported.
The deceased will be laid to rest in his native village in Zobe, family sources told Geo News.
It is pertinent to mention, Wali Khan Babar, Geo News reporter was targeted killed in a terrorist attack in Liaquatabad, Thursday evening.
According to Geo News, the reporter was on his way back home from Geo News office, when he came under a targeted attack.
KARACHI: Another wave of target killings hit Karachi that killed 17 people including Geo News reporter Wali Kahan Babar in different parts of the country's commercial capital, Geo News reported.
At least seven people were killed yesterday while ten more lost lives after 12:00 am.
The most serious incident occurred in Orangi Town when armed men attacked a bus of route 1-D near Qasba More, in which six people, including a seven-year-old girl Dua and a woman, were killed.
The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed and Qatar Hospitals.
Those killed were identified as Faraz, Rashid Anwar, Javed and Dua while two remained unidentified. Later, large contingents of police and Rangers started patrolling the affected areas.
In another incident, a man identified as Hamaad, an MQM supporter, was shot dead in Liaquatabad area late night. Police said the victim was standing outside his house when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him.
Hammad was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died. After his death, a large number of MQM leaders and workers reached the hospital and demanded immediate arrest of his killers.
Earlier, unidentified assailants riding a two-wheeler opened fire on ANP Sindh Secretary General Basheer Jan and his colleague Arshad near the Civic Center. As a result, both received injuries and were rushed to the JPMC, where their condition is stated to be out of danger.
Police said that Basheer Jan had come to visit an office in Gulshan area when he was attacked by some unknown armed men who later managed to flee from the scene. The ANP leader received bullets on both hands and on the back, hospital sources said. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
Violence and firing incidents were reported from different parts of the city, including Manghopir, Orangi Town, Qasba More and the Kati Pehari area.
Since the beginning of the year, in the last 13 days, 18 people were killed in target killings out of a total of 35 who were murdered. Five were ANP activists, four MQM, one Haqiqi, one PPP, one belonged to the Fiqh Jafferia and one was a policeman.
LAHORE: Leader of PML-N Ahsan Iqbal Tuesday said neither was PML-N asked about the appointment of new governor Punjab nor were we consulted, however, our party welcomes the decision, Geo News reported.
Responding over the appointment of Sardar Lateef Khosa as new governor Punjab, Ahsan Iqbal warned the former not to opt way of conflict, fearing that such attitude would akin to derailing democracy in province.

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor-designate Sardar Latif Khosa Wednesday telephoned PML-N Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, sources told Geo News.
According to the sources, Nawaz welcomed Khosa upon latter’s appointment as a Punjab Governor.
Governor-designate expressed his willingness for a meeting with PML-N Chief, sources added.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said he has received the agenda of PML (N) and the government will implement it together with consultations.
Talking to newsmen here Tuesday, he said, “We will also seek cooperation and guidance from Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, in this regard.”
The Prime Minister said, “Parliamentary leaders of other political parties also have the same viewpoint to resolve the problems and we will also take them along.”
He said whatever the government can do within its limited resources, it will do for the welfare of the people as it is a government of the people.

To a question about Pope Benedict's statement about blasphemy laws, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the will act according to the national law.

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has cast doubt over the eligibility of 298 parliamentarians who have failed to submit their degrees of Matric and intermediate, Geo News reported on Tuesday.
Spokesman for the EC informed the media here, those MPs who did not submit the degrees included 21 from Senate and 112 from National Assembly, 102 from Punjab Assembly, 10 from Sindh Assembly, and 10 from Balochistan Assembly and 45 from Khyber Pakhtunkwa.
Babar Awan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhary Nisar, Chaudhary Shujaat, Pervez Elahi and others are among the MPs included in the list.
Meanwhile, the degrees of 818 parliamentarians have been approved by the commission.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari appointed close aide Latif Khosa to succeed the murdered governor of the Punjab province Salman Taseer on recommendation by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Earlier this week, President Zardari held consultations with senior leaders of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in connection with the appointment of Punjab governor at Bilawal House in Karachi. The announcement was made public after an elaborate meeting between Latif Khosa and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, which was held on January 9.
Later on the same date, the PM Gilani sent to President Zardari the summary with recommendation for appointing Latif Khosa as new Punjab governor. According to President House’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar, Presdient Zardari today signed the summary.
After the approval by President Zardari, Sardar Latif Khosa has become the 33rd gvoernor of Punjab.
Analysts say Khosa will try to avoid antagonising the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to tamp down disputes that have paralysed the federal government. Though soft-spoken and non-confontational, he is an ardent supporter of the PPP.
Khosa is the successor of Salman Taseer, the outspoken governor of the central province of Punjab, who was gunned down by one of his bodyguards in Islamabad on Tuesday for supporting changes in the country’s blasphemy law.
Khosa said earlier on Saturday that Zardari had called him along with Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar and Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh for a meeting in Karachi.
“I will accept whatever the decision of my leadership,” he said.
Taseer was fiery and often clashed publicly with Nawaz and his brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif. Khosa, on the other hand, is soft-spoken and non-confrontational. But he is an ardent supporter of the PPP.
Khosa’s appointment comes just one day before an ultimatum given by Nawaz Sharif to Zardari’s government on Tuesday to accept a list of his demands or face expulsion of PPP members from the Punjab provincial government.
Latif Khosa is a Pakistani senator and advocate, and the previous Attorney General of Pakistan. He was appointed the Attorney General on 19 August, 2008. He co-authored an electoral fraud report with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto shortly before her assassination in December 2007. Khosa was one of Bhutto's top aides.
Senator Khosa appeared before the acting Chief Justice Javaid Iqbal in a hearing over the handling of the Iftikhar Chaudry sacking issue. Khosa claimed to be working to have the ex-Chief Justice reinstated.
Latif Khosa has been recently removed form the office of Attorney General of Pakistan on October 10th 2009 due to allegations and on 10 February 2010 as Advisor of Information Technology of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
On 20 July 2010, advisor to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Information Technology Sardar Latif Khosa sent his resignation to the President after developing disagreements with the Premier.
